A small habit can irritate the gums.

In her February 2026 video, Dr. Farah cautions against forcing wooden toothpicks between teeth. The useful takeaway is to choose a tool designed for cleaning and learn a gentle technique.

The practical takeaway

Brushing does not fully reach between teeth. Daily interdental cleaning can use floss, suitable interdental brushes or other dental cleaning tools. Ask your dentist which fits your spaces and dental work. Do not snap floss into the gums.

If food repeatedly catches in the same place or cleaning causes persistent pain or bleeding, arrange an assessment rather than repeatedly digging at the area.

Bring the question to your visit

Save the topic that matters to you and discuss it with the dentist. An article can help prepare your questions; personal advice needs your history and a clinical examination.
